Low Line Park Scratching The Surface
Every New Yorker is familiar with The High Line by now. The strip of above ground train tracks that’s been transformed into one of Manhattan’s most modern and most frequently visited parks. It’s grown in size and popularity each year since its opening in 2009, and is now a staple landmark for locals and tourists alike. With beer gardens, constant new art installations and ever changing attractions High Line Park is the city’s abandoned property Cinderella story.
The success of The High Linehas generated copycats in cities across the country and now the globe, bringing old decrepit transit properties into modern day landmarks. Now, some locals want to flip the idea to the other side of town.. and below the surface. Two New Yorkers, James Ramsey and Dan Barasch, have developed a plan to turn an old Lower East Side trolley station (abandoned in 1948), into a futuristic underground park.
SO COOL! That would be awesome!
